New York City in Photographs, 1962-72

 

Reading Room photograph print large view I chose this photo because I love the atmosphere in it and because it contrasts sharply with all of Safran's street-wise shots. The men in this image are well to do, and are deeply engrossed with their reading at the New York Public Library. The light glows from many sources, particularly from the impeccably shiny table and large book.
